 "Out There" is nine acres of land in Floyd
County Virginia where Charlie Brouwer lives and has his studio.
Floyd County is in the Blue Ridge Mountains of SW Virginia near the Blue
Ridge Parkway.
Visitors are always welcome to visit by appointment and the studio and
grounds are open
to the public periodically. In the studio visitors can see past work and works in progress. Outdoor
sculptures (usually about 20 of them)
can be seen by walking the trails
through the fields and woods of the grounds. Caution, do not use MapQuest GPS for
directions in our area because they will direct you
on some roads that
are not drivable!
Directions to "Out There"
From Interstate 77:
At Exit 14 take Route 221 North towards Hillsville
Stay on 221 about 19 miles
Two miles after passing through the village of Willis turn left on Alum
Ridge Rd.
Take Alum Ridge Rd. 5 miles and turn left on Sawmill Hill Rd. (gravel
Rd.)
In one mile turn right on Akers Rd. – we are on the left in about
1/3 mile From Interstate 81:
At exit 114 (near Christiansburg) take Route 8 South towards Floyd
Continue on Rt. 8 for about 12 miles and turn right on Alum Ridge Rd.
Take Alum Ridge about 6 1/2 miles and turn right on Sawmill Hill Rd. (gravel Rd.)
In 1 mile turn right on Akers Rd. – we are on the left in about 1/3 mile
From the Blue Ridge Parkway:
At Milepost 165 take Route 8 North towards Floyd
In 10 miles turn left on Ridge View Rd.
Take Ridge View Rd. 6.5 miles and turn right on Alum Ridge Rd.
Take Alum Ridge Rd. less than a mile and turn left on Sawmill Hill Rd.
In one mile turn right on Akers Rd. – we are on the left in about
